Why does windows xp professional report that i only have 512 mb total memory?

when in fact i have 2 gig. but it does say I have 1.6 gig physical memory available..??

have you got SP2 ? If so then that is why, your system will use an amount of the total ram to store system info etc and also SP2 has issues with reporting the correct amount of RAM. If you want to know how much ram you have and how much is being used etc, I suggest you get everest home edition ( or the ulitmate edition although you are going to be limited with the ultimate one since it is a trial )

well you most likely have an integrated video card. which means the thing that makes images and videos appear is subtracting from some of the RAM resources
